For Immediate Release: North Carolina State Fire Marshal Brian Taylor Named President of National Association of State Fire Marshals
North Carolina’s State Fire Marshal, Brian Taylor, has been elected President of the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM), bringing a strong North Carolina voice to a national leadership position representing the fire service and communities across the country. The announcement was made during NASFM’s Annual Symposium in Garden Grove, California, where State Fire Marshals and fire service leaders from across the nation gathered to share ideas, discuss emerging challenges, and strengthen efforts to protect lives and communities.
Taylor serves as North Carolina’s State Fire Marshal and leads the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM). Through OSFM, North Carolina works with fire departments, firefighters, local governments, emergency responders, and communities across the state on fire prevention, training, code enforcement, emergency preparedness, public education, and other initiatives designed to reduce fire deaths and injuries and strengthen the state’s fire service. Chief Taylor will bring that experience to his national role while continuing to serve as North Carolina State Fire Marshal.
“It is a tremendous honor and privilege to serve as President of the National Association of State Fire Marshals,” Taylor said. “I am proud to bring North Carolina’s perspective to this national role, but I also recognize that this position is about much more than one state or one organization. It is about supporting firefighters, fire officers, fire prevention professionals, emergency responders, and fire service leaders across the country who put their lives on the line every day to protect others.”
Taylor said his focus will be on strengthening the connection between state and local fire service organizations and ensuring that the challenges facing firefighters and their communities remain at the forefront of national discussions.
“Whether you are a career firefighter, a volunteer firefighter, a fire chief, a fire marshal, an inspector, an investigator, or someone working behind the scenes to keep our communities safe, we are all part of the same mission,” Taylor said. “The challenges facing the fire service do not stop at state lines. We have an opportunity to learn from one another, share resources and solutions, and work together to make the entire fire service stronger.”
Chief Taylor emphasized that the future of fire and life safety depends on collaboration at every level — from local fire departments and firefighters to state agencies and national organizations. “Fire safety is a team effort,” Taylor said. “Our strength comes from working together. I look forward to using this opportunity to elevate the issues that matter to firefighters and the communities they serve, strengthen partnerships across the country, and help build a safer future for everyone.”
