Burlington Composite Squadron - Three Events in One Day

By: Captain S. R. Morrison, CAP

Asst. Personnel Officer, North Carolina Wing Group 4

The Burlington Composite Squadron, joined by a member of the Orange County Composite Squadron, was omnipresent at Southeast High School’s five football games, from the Color Guard presenting colors to a massive fundraiser at the concession stand and recruitment table. The Squadron Commander, three senior members, and thirteen cadets remained active for 9 hours, working the concession stand for an upcoming CAP educational trip and also working a CAP recruitment booth. Four cadets from the Color Guard presented the colors before each of the five games, with two senior members supporting. When they were not active, everyone interacted with the community, demonstrating camaraderie and professionalism. There were over 1300 attendees.

At the same time, in another location in Lillington, NC, the Color Guard was presenting colors at the Veterans’ Legacy Foundation, recognizing its veterans. This Legacy group searches for veterans who never received decorations or recognition they truly deserved while in the service for various reasons. The special day recognizes those service members for their sacrifice. The Color Guard team of four cadets and two supporting senior members demonstrated Civil Air Patrol’s commitment to our veterans of all branches. A total of 6 hours were spent learning about our history and listening to our veterans.

Across all events, 7 senior members, 16 cadets, 5 parents and contributors donated baked goods to help raise funds. The entire group of CAP members was well received for their professionalism and their esprit de corps.
