Patriot Day Observance to be held Friday, Sept 11
The Onslow Civic Affairs Committee along with the City of Jacksonville, MCB Camp Lejeune, and Onslow County government partners will hold its 2026 Patriot Day Observance at 8:15 AM, Friday, September 11 at the 9/11 Memorial Beam, Lejeune Memorial Gardens, 109 Montford Landing Road.
The observance honors the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks and those lost in the subsequent War on Terror. It will feature members of the honor guard from Jacksonville Police and Fire, local law enforcement, representatives from Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune to build the KIA (killed in action) Memorial, and performances from the 2d Marine Division Band, Jacksonville High School Cardinal Chamber Strings and Dixon High School chorus.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that killed 2,977 in the planes and in the buildings at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania. The Onslow Civic Affairs Committee has chosen this anniversary to remember those with ties to our home state of North Carolina.
The public is welcome to attend to honor the fallen alongside members of our community. Parking will be available in the Lejeune Memorial Gardens parking area and across the street at the Coastal Carolina Veterans Cemetery. The ceremony will be recorded and available for viewing on G10TV, the City’s YouTube Channel and on Cablecast.
